We will meet just before 8AM next to St Brigid's Church, and walk past the beautiful Loch Cluthar where we will share some local lore on how it is connected with Brigid. Then as dawn breaks, we make our way passed Currach na Meise with it's myriad of wading birds.
After this we will climb the bóithrín overlooking Oileán Bhríde and we will chat about some of the local folklore associated with Bríd (Brigid or Brigit).
Then it's down Céim an Staíghre passed the holy well where we will get the traditional beannacht (blessing). This holy well is known as Tobar Bhríghide and the most auspicious day to visit is early on the morning of her feast day, February 1st .
After taking to the sea at Trá an Oileáin in the shadow of Oileán Bhríde on the way back, you will join fellow dippers, swimmers and walkers for hot drinks and snacks above the strand as we share some more local traditions, words and stories about the sea.
This ancient pilgrimage was probably been happening for 1,500 years.
Each participant will also receive a Beannachtaí Bhríde hat.
Anyone intending to swim must have a swim buoy. We will have a limited number of swim-buoys available on the day. Warm clothes recommended for afterwards.
